FOOD INSPECTOR
A food inspector is someone who is responsible for giving individual inspections for determining the quality of the food processed or made. They also deal with the prevention of food hazards, manufacture of safety manuals for companies and determine the verifications of the salesperson. Food inspectors mointor and keep close vigilance on food processors, manufacturers and distributors for violation of safety and sanitation. These data thus collected will be turned over to the departments of health and other agencies that carry out research for governmental purposes.
Inspectors may also be required to inspect slaughter houses and poultry farms. Inspectors report violations to the appropriate regulatory agency and are responsible for ensuring that foods are suitable for human consumption.
ELIGIBILITY FOR FOOD INSPECTOR:-
Age: Candidates aged between 18 and 25 years of age are eligible to apply for the post of Food Inspector.
Educational qualification: Candidates with completed graduation in medicine or have a bachelors degree in agriculture, pharmacy, food technology and dairy technology.
Procedure of Selection:- Candidates will be selected based on performance in written test and interview.
EXAMINATION
The most popular exam conducted in the country is UPSC All India Food Inspector exam. Various state public service exams also conduct state level exams. The pattern for these exams is common with both technical as well as aptitude test.
UPSC ALL INDIA FOOD INSPECTOR EXAM
Union Public Service Commission directs All India Food Inspector Exam for recruitment of food inspectors in various officies around the country.This is a national level exam consisting of technical and aptitude based questions. The exam will be conducted at examination centers in every district of each state.
Educational qualification: Aspirants possesing any of the following qualifications are eligible to apply for UPSC All India Food Inspector Exam
- Graduates in medicine with one year training in food inspection.
- Bachelors degree in science stream with chemistry as a compulsory.
-Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Public Health/ Veterinary Science/Dairy Technology/Pharmacy / Food Technology
Candidates possesing any degree equivalent to those given above are eligible to apply.
Procedure of Selection:- Candidates will be selected based on performance in written test and interview.
Exam Paper Pattern
1) Numerical Ability
2) Science Subject
3) GK questions.
4) English language test.
The duration of the exam will be 150 minutes.
There is negative marking for incorrect answers.

SALARY
The initial salary of candidates in this field is around Rs. 9000 – 13,500 a month. Professionals will have a monthly remuneration of around Rs. 35,000/-.
